CEO INTERVIEW - SCALES

Craigs Investment Partners

Scales’ origins date back to 1897 when it was established by George H Scales to challenge the freight rates being charged by the large British shipping lines to New Zealand wool exporters. Today, logistics is only a very small part of the business, with Food Ingredients (largely petfood) and Horticulture (apples) making up the bulk of earnings.

Our Senior Research Analyst, Mohandeep Singh, took the opportunity to sit down with Andy Borland, Managing Director at Scales to discuss what the Scales business looks like today, the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle on its apple orchards, and the vast opportunities ahead of Scales in the petfood space.
